Blue Moon to End 2009

2009 ends on a blue moon. A blue moon is the second full moon in a month. Since the lunar cycle is about 29.5 days, an occasional month will contain two full moons. When that happens, the second full moon is considered the "blue" moon. Blue moons are a relatively rare occurrence; hence the expression, "once in a blue moon."
